Development cooperation
New Zealand's International Aid and Development programme (NZAID) manages New Zealand's official development assistance (ODA) programme. NZAID is a programme within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade that also provides policy advice on international development issues.
NZAID’s mission is to support sustainable development in developing countries in order to reduce poverty and to contribute to a more secure, equitable, and prosperous world.
NZAID’s core focus is the Pacific region, but also supports programmes in Asia, southern Africa and Latin America. NZAID also works with multilateral agencies to address poverty, conflict, governance issues, and humanitarian crises worldwide.
New Zealand aid programme focuses on sustainable economic development, which will in the long-term allow developing countries to fund their own social services (for example health and education services) and further development activities.
New Zealand is committed to providing effective aid, as agreed by the international community. This includes support for the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the Accra Agenda for Action.
For more information about the work of NZAID visit the NZAID website.
The New Zealand Agency for International Development Nga Hoe Tuputupu-mai-tawhiti (NZAID Vanuatu) is committed to building a long-term and effective development partnership with Vanuatu. NZAID’s aim is to strengthen the Vanuatu Government’s own ability to deliver development benefits and reduce the poverty and hardship faced by the people of Vanuatu, particularly those living in rural areas.
