Later this year and early next year, New Zealanders enrolled to vote will be asked to participate in two postal referenda to consider the future of the New Zealand flag:
1. to rank the shortlist of four flag alternatives
2. to keep the current flag or adopt the preferred alternative design.

The New Zealand Embassy hosted a press conference to officially launch the ‘New Zealand – Open to the New’ season, kicking-off an anniversary year celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and Viet Nam, in the presence of Vietnam Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Haike Manning, Mayor of Wellington capital city Her Worship Celia Wade-Brown, Managing Partner of Fraser Law Mr Mark Fraser, and many journalists.

Foreign Minister Murray McCully today welcomed New Zealand taking up its seat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

“New Zealand’s term on the Security Council will place us at the heart of international decision-making for the next two years,” Mr McCully says.

“The Security Council is currently considering some of the most pressing issues the international community faces, including; the dire humanitarian situation in Syria, ISIL, and Ebola.

Today, the New Zealand Embassy in Hanoi and Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City announce the official logo to brand the ‘New Zealand – Open to the New’ season of events to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and Viet Nam.

A young Vietnam designer, Tran Giang Nam is the winner for the first prize of VND20,000,000. Giang’s design is inspired by the fusion of highlights in the cultures of both New Zealand and Viet Nam.
