New Zealand Ambassador meets Minister of Education and Training

On 6th February 2013, Ambassador Haike Manning paid an introductory call on Vietnamese Minister of Education and Training H.E Mr Pham Vu Luan.

Ambassador Manning affirmed that education is an important part of the bilateral relationship and will be a priority area for New Zealand during his four-year posting in Vietnam.  Ambassador encouraged the Ministry to send more Doctoral candidates on scholarship to study in New Zealand under Programme 911, as well as teachers under the “National Foreign Languages 2020 Project”.  He also highlighted the scope to enhance institution-to-institution linkages between the two countries through joint programmes in Viet Nam.

Minister Luan was pleased to receive the Ambassador on Waitangi Day, New Zealand’s national day, and said that he highly valued New Zealand’s support in the education sphere including through the Gia Lai Early Childhood Education project, the English Language Training for Officials and Senior Officials Programmes, and the New Zealand ASEAN Scholars Awards.

The Minister agreed with the idea to increase the focus on the education relationship in the next phase of implementation of the Comprehensive Partnership between New Zealand and Viet Nam, during 2013-2016.
