New Zealand ASEAN Scholar Awards Winners Announced
The New Zealand Embassy has announced that 30 Vietnamese students have been offered New Zealand ASEAN Scholar awards for the New Zealand academic year commencing in early 2012.
Ambassador Heather Riddell says her Government is delighted to have selected 30 outstanding Vietnamese recipients from a large number of applications throughout the country.
The 30 successful applicants come from a wide range of backgrounds and sectors, including media, public institutions, NGOs and private enterprises. They will pursue doctoral and Masters degrees at New Zealand’s tertiary institutions in a variety of fields that include tourism, finance, applied linguistics, business, communication, education, public policy, agribusiness and aquaculture.
Ambassador Riddell says the New Zealand ASEAN Scholar awards will empower individuals with knowledge, skills and qualifications to contribute to economic, social and political development within their home country.
“By receiving these scholarships, scholars will have access to New Zealand’s world class education that offers excellent academic knowledge in high quality facilities and internationally recognised qualifications. We hope they will be able to acquire new skills and knowledge in their areas of expertise that will contribute to the future development of Vietnam.”
The New Zealand ASEAN Scholar awards are part of the New Zealand’s official development assistance to the ASEAN region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, through the New Zealand Aid Programme, implements the scheme.
In 2011 a total of 170 New Zealand ASEAN Scholar Awards were allocated to eligible students from ASEAN countries including Vietnam to undertake full-time post-graduate studies at New Zealand’s tertiary institutions. The awards cover full tuition fees, a living allowance while in New Zealand, medical and travel insurance, an establishment allowance and return airfares.
The call for applications for the next New Zealand ASEAN Scholar awards intake (for study in 2013) will be made shortly. Detailed information will be posted on this website, and additional enquiries can be made to nzembassy.hanoi@mft.net.nz or tel. (04) 3824-1481.
