Open Letter from Ambassador

In October 2009, after 6 weeks in the job, Ambassador Heather Riddell reflects on her new role in Viet Nam.

"I am lucky to have begun my assignment as New Zealand Ambassador to Viet Nam at a pivotal time, as New Zealand and Viet Nam embark on a Comprehensive Partnership Framework that has given fresh impetus to the many strands of our already warm and close bilateral relationship.

In addition to the roll out of the CPF, there are a number of exciting milestones to look forward to in 2010. New Zealand will commemorate 35 years of bilateral relations with Viet Nam, and at the same time 35 years of relations with ASEAN, of which Viet Nam is a member. The Australia/NZ/ASEAN Free Trade Agreement is expected to enter into force on 1 January, opening new opportunities for businesses in both Viet Nam and in New Zealand.

I and the rest of the team at the New Zealand Embassy are looking forward these opportunities to profile and enhance the bilateral relationship."
