The New Zealand – Viet Nam bilateral Working Holiday Scheme went “live”
The New Zealand – Viet Nam bilateral Working Holiday Scheme (WHS) went “live” on 31 July 2012.
The event was marked by a launch ceremony and a half day information workshop co-organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) and the New Zealand Embassy in Hanoi. Participants from relevant Government Ministries/agencies, a number of education institutions, job centres and media totalling some 100 people attended the event.
In her opening remarks to the seminar, MOLISA Minister H.E. Mme Pham Thi Hai Chuyen highlighted the fact that the bilateral New Zealand/Viet Nam Working Holiday Scheme was the first of its kind for Viet Nam and looked forward to effective implementation of the Scheme. In her response, Ms Heather Riddell, the New Zealand Ambassador to Viet Nam, emphasised the potential of the bilateral WHS to significantly strengthen people to people linkages between the young people of Viet Nam and New Zealand.
Participation in a Working Holiday Scheme enables young people to see the world, improve their knowledge and understanding of foreign cultures and languages and gain life experience in an affordable way. New Zealand has over 30 such bilateral schemes around the world. Information packages for New Zealand and Vietnamese enquirers are available below.
The launch of the Scheme realises a significant bilateral commitment made by New Zealand under the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA).
