New Zealand Embassy Ha Noi, Viet Nam


On 22 March the Government of Viet Nam confirmed that it would make a donation of US$50,000 to New Zealand in response to the earthquake that killed over 165 people and caused widespread damage in Christchurch on 22 February.


On 21st January 2011, the New Zealand Embassy in Hanoi held a pre-departure briefing for NZDS awardees who were about to depart to undertake their post graduate study in New Zealand in early 2011. The briefing aims to provide the NZDS awardees with the information on their entitlements and obligations, accommodation, customs procedures, health insurance, arrival and living in New Zealand as well as the most recent changes of New Zealand immigration policy applied to the NZDS awardees.


New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon John Key and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Murray McCully returned to Viet Nam last week, for a bilateral visit to Ho Chi Minh City followed by attendance at the Fifth East Asia Summit and related meetings in Hanoi.


Strategic partnership to support the development and implementation of an Early Childhood Development initiative in Gia Lai province, Viet Nam.

The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), is inviting submissions of Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and experienced International Organisations to enter into a strategic partnership with the New Zealand Aid Programme and the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee (together "the Strategic Partners") for the purposes of successfully developing and implementing a programme aimed at improving the quality of Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Early Childhood Development (ECD) for ethnic minority children in Gia Lai province ("the Project").


The relationship between New Zealand and Viet Nam took another significant step forward on 21 July when both countries agreed on an Action Plan to give effect to our bilateral Comprehensive Partnership established in September 2009.


The New Zealand Customs Service and Viet Nam’s General Department of Customs have signed a new Cooperative Arrangement (CCA).


The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Hon John Key, made an official visit to Viet Nam 10-12 July to mark the 35th anniversary of bilateral relations.


Following the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on S&T cooperation between New Zealand and Viet Nam earlier this year, a group of senior NZ scientists, university representatives and officials visited Viet Nam from 24-28 May to participate in an S&T fact-finding and networking mission.


The New Zealand and Australian Governments recently held seminars in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to promote both countries as potential investment destinations for Vietnamese companies and individuals. A/NZ Ambassadors and Trade Commissioners participated, together with senior officials from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and A/NZ regional investment specialists based in Singapore.


The New Zealand Embassy is receiving applications for New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) – Intake 2011. Eligible Vietnamese candidates who wish to undertake post-graduate study commencing in the 2011 academic year in New Zealand in agriculture and rural development, environment, education, or economic development can apply.
